About Comosum

Comosum is a Brooklyn, New York–based online retailer of sustainable, original-design furniture and lighting, shipping to the contiguous 48 states. Founded in 2023 by Joel Lasner, a former furniture buyer, we carry more than 25 design houses — most of them European, including Ethnicraft, Fermob, UMAGE, Anglepoise and FDB Møbler — and only licensed originals, never replicas. Before we carry a brand, we grade it on our Sustainability Meter: six categories (Material, Transportation, Manufacturing, Labor, Energy, Durability), each scored 1 to 5 from published evidence. A brand needs a grade of at least 3.0 (18 of 30), no category at 1, and no more than two categories below 3. Comosum LLC is a member of Be Original Americas and a BBB Accredited Business.

Comosum was founded by a former furniture buyer with over a decade of experience working with some of the world’s most respected furniture retailers. Through that work, it became clear how difficult it was for consumers to shop sustainably—despite growing awareness, meaningful information about materials, manufacturing, and product longevity was often missing or unclear.

To address this gap, Comosum built the Sustainability Meter—a published rubric we use to grade every brand we carry. It goes beyond surface-level “eco-friendly” claims and scores material, transportation, manufacturing, labor, energy and durability from evidence the brand or a third party has published. Every product shows its brand’s scores, and the full methodology is published so anyone can check a score.

Only brands that clear the Meter’s three rules are included in our assortment.

How is sustainability evaluated at Comosum?

Does Comosum only work with certain regions or countries?
No. Comosum works with design brands from around the world, most of them European. The same Sustainability Meter rules are applied to every brand, wherever it designs or manufactures.

Are all products on Comosum considered sustainable?
Every product offered on Comosum comes from a brand that has been graded on the Sustainability Meter and clears our minimum standards. That said, sustainability is not binary.
