How We Write Our Guides

Comosum's buying guides are written by Comosum, an online retailer of original-design furniture based in Brooklyn, New York. We sell most of the products we recommend. This page explains how we keep the guides useful anyway.

Who writes them

Guides are researched, written and checked by Comosum, and every guide is reviewed before it goes live.

We sell what we recommend

When you buy a product from a guide, you buy it from us. The prices, sale prices and stock you see on a guide come straight from our store, so they are always current. We don't type prices into the text.

How we check claims

• Every factual claim comes from the brand's own published material, a third-party certification body, or our product records. If we can't verify a claim, we leave it out.
• We name a certification only when it's issued by an independent body, such as FSC, GREENGUARD Gold, OEKO-TEX or B Corp. A brand's own statement is described as the brand's statement.
• FSC tells you where the wood came from. It doesn't tell you what's in the glue or finish, and we don't present it as if it did.

The Sustainability Meter

Each brand we carry is graded in six categories: Material, Transportation, Manufacturing, Labor, Energy and Durability. The grade in a guide is read live from the same record as the grade on the product page. How the Meter works.

Updates and corrections

We review a guide when products, certifications or the evidence change. The date at the top of each guide shows the last real revision, not the last time we fixed a typo. If you spot an error, email hello@comosum.co and we'll correct it.
