Mater has worked with designers in Copenhagen since 2006, using materials such as FSC-certified wood, recycled plastic, upcycled coffee waste and reclaimed mango wood.

Alder Stool
Equally a perch, a side table and a plant stand, Patricia Urquiola's stool is press-molded from biodegradable Matek.
Matek is Mater's press-molded composite of waste fibre and a plastic binder; the Alder blends pair biodegradable plastic with coffee-shell waste in Sand and Earth Grey, and with wood waste in Light Green and Terracotta. Mater molds the compound in Latvia into one sculptural 14.2-inch body at a chair-like 17.4-inch seat height, specified for indoor use. Matek is water-repellent and highly durable by Mater's own account, and the company takes Matek furniture back at end of life to recycle into new pieces. It is the smallest piece of the Alder collection in our Mater collection.

No — Mater specifies the Alder collection for indoor use. The Matek body should be kept away from prolonged moisture, excessive heat and direct sun.
