Oki-Nami Stool

Nazanin Kamali designed the Oki-Nami Stool in 2008 for the Oki-Nami Japanese restaurant in Brighton, and Case has kept it in production ever since.

Kamali, formerly creative director at Aero and with Case since its first 2005 collection, designed the restaurant's interior and worked with Case on its tables, chairs and stools. The brief was Japanese attention to detail with the durability to survive nightly service. The answer is a solid oak frame with an angled profile, matchstick legs, double footrests and a 2-inch leather seat pad over layered foam, under a matte, non-yellowing lacquer. Made in Lithuania, it stands 30.3 inches to the seat: bar height for the Dulwich Bar Table in the Case collection.

Common Questions

Does the Oki-Nami Stool need assembly?
No. It arrives fully assembled and weighs 11 pounds, so it goes straight from the box to the counter. Components are replaceable, so a damaged seat pad or leg can be reordered rather than the whole stool.

What counter height does the Oki-Nami Stool suit?
Bar height. The seat is the highest point at 30.3 inches, suiting bar tables and counters of 40 to 42 inches, including Case's 41.3-inch Dulwich Bar Table. At a standard 36-inch kitchen counter it sits too high.

Is the Oki-Nami Stool sturdy enough for daily use?
It was designed for nightly restaurant service and Case has made it since 2008. Solid oak under a hard-wearing lacquer; the leather seat pad over mixed foam meets the CAL 117 and BS 5852 fire standards.

Case +

Case was founded in London in 2005 by Paul Newman, who had spent the previous two decades designing, manufacturing and retailing furniture through his Aero stores on Westbourne Grove and the King's Road. The idea behind Case was to put authored design within reach: pieces by Matthew Hilton, Terence Woodgate, Nazanin Kamali and David Irwin, made in volume with modern manufacturing so that quality and price are not a trade-off. Case is stocked by John Lewis, Heal's, Liberty and Design Within Reach, and backs everything it makes with a 2-year warranty.

Comosum carries Case because the furniture is built from solid timber with replaceable components and kept in production for years rather than seasons, which is the kind of longevity that actually reduces waste.

Care Guide +

Wipe the wood with a damp, soft, non-abrasive, lint-free cloth, moving in the direction of the grain, then dry with a second cloth the same way. The matte, non-yellowing polyurethane lacquer does not need polishing. Never use wax-based polish or ammonia-based cleaning products on the wood.
