Tanso Bar Stool

David Irwin's Tanso Bar Stool is made from Grade-A solid teak in Thailand, and Case rates it for outdoor and indoor use.

Irwin's work starts from how and why things are made, and Tanso borrows the restraint of Japanese furniture: a slatted back, a square-section frame and a footrest, all in teak. Teak's high natural oil and resin content is what makes it the outdoor timber; left outside it weathers from golden brown to silver-gray, and an occasional wash with warm water and mild detergent keeps it golden if you prefer. It arrives fully assembled with replaceable components, and belongs with the Tanso tables, benches and chairs in the Case collection, or inside at a kitchen island.

Can the Tanso Bar Stool stay outside all year?
Yes. Teak's high natural oil and resin content makes it weather-resistant, and Case rates the stool for outdoor use with very little care. A breathable cover slows the weathering and keeps standing water off the seat.

Will the teak change color?
Yes, and that is normal. In sun and rain, teak moves from rich golden brown to soft silver-gray over time. To keep the golden look, wash it regularly with warm water, mild detergent and a soft-bristle brush.

Does the Tanso Bar Stool need assembly, and how heavy is it?
