Mater Cube

Inside each Mater Cube sit 11.74 kilograms of diverted waste: coffee shells from BKI and industrial plastic from GROHE.

Mater molds that waste into Matek and forms a 17.7-inch cube around an inner frame of FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified wood, giving you a stool, a side table, a footrest or a plant stand as the room needs. Mater, the Copenhagen design house founded in 2006, builds the Cube in Latvia and presses all of its Matek in a facility run entirely on hydropower. Pound for pound it is the most concentrated piece of circular design in our Mater collection.

What can the Mater Cube be used for?
Extra seating, a side table, a footrest or a plant stand. The 17.7-inch cube is solid enough to sit on and finished on all sides, so it does not need to face a particular way in the room.

What is the Mater Cube made from?
One Cube contains 11.74 kilograms, about 25.9 pounds, of diverted waste: coffee-shell waste from BKI's roasting process and industrial plastic waste from GROHE, molded around an FSC-certified wood frame.

Can it be used outdoors?
No. Matek is an indoor material. Left outside it will take up water and fade, so keep the Cube under cover and wipe it with a damp cloth rather than hosing it down.
