Conscious Chair

Borge Mogensen and Esben Klint drew this chair for Danish schools in 1958; Mater rebuilt it from 2,140 grams of waste.

It is the first Borge Mogensen design relaunched in a material other than the original: a Matek seat and back of recycled fiber and plastic waste on an FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified beech or oak frame. Wallpaper* named it the best sustainable step forward in its 2023 Smart Space Awards. Mater, the Copenhagen design house founded in 2006 and a certified B Corp, makes it in Latvia for our Mater collection.

Yes. Mogensen and Esben Klint drew model 3162 in 1958 for Danish schools, which is why it is known as the school chair. Mater's reissue is the first Mogensen design in a new material.
