J83 Stool

J83 is a simple, comfortable stool that is among the most iconic designs from the first golden age of FDB Møbler. Jørgen Bækmark, who was head of the FDB Møbler design studio from 1958, designed it to complement the popular J80 and J81 dining table chairs, as well as the J82 lounge chair – or armchair, as it was called back in the 1960s. The chairs and stool are part of the design that has literally proved timeless and been popular for generations. Jørgen Bækmark stressed that furniture should be comfortable, and this is certainly true of the stool, too.

Jørgen Bækmark (1929–2021) served as design director of FDB Møbler from 1958 for nine years, democratizing design furniture through his quiet design language and meticulous attention to detail. His work celebrates solid oak and natural beauty.
