Fermob Sixties Chair
Designed by Frédéric Sofia — the Marseille-based designer behind much of Fermob's contemporary catalog, including the Bebop and Cadiz collections — the Sixties Chair is a retro-leaning take on the outdoor dining chair, drawing on the form vocabulary of 1960s French garden furniture without becoming a literal reproduction. Its tubular aluminium frame is wrapped at the seat and backrest with a braided polyethylene outdoor fibre that softens the silhouette and gives the piece its signature character. The fibre is technical (UV-stable, salt-spray-tolerant, dries quickly after rain) but reads as warm and handmade — a rare combination in outdoor seating, where most weather-resistant materials feel either glossy-industrial or visibly synthetic. The chair is light enough to lift with one hand, comfortable without a cushion thanks to the fibre give, and built to weather a coastal patio or a south-facing terrace without complaint.
Manufactured at Fermob's factory in Thoissey, France — the same Burgundy site that has produced the brand's outdoor catalog since 1953 — the frame is finished in cataphoresis-treated, UV-stable powder coat available across Fermob's 24+ color range. Available at Comosum in Cotton White, Red Ochre, Liquorice, and Cactus. The chair is stackable for off-season storage, requires no annual maintenance beyond an occasional wipe-down, and is backed by Fermob's 5-year warranty against rust-through and powder coat failure. TSCA Title VI and California Prop 65 compliant; weather-resistant year-round but covers or storage in extended freezing weather will extend finish life. The Sixties Chair pairs naturally with the matching Sixties Low Table for compact terrace dining, with the Sixties Bench for outdoor entertaining setups, or used as a single statement piece against a quieter material story. The retro 1960s color palette — particularly the Red Ochre and Liquorice variants — reads as deliberately nostalgic without becoming kitschy, which is the line every retro-styled outdoor piece has to walk.
