Nestor Sidechair

Tom Stepp pared the Danish dining chair back to Shaker essentials: woven paper cord and honest wood.

The frame is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council)-certified beech or oak finished with water-based, low-VOC lacquer, and the seat is hand-woven from biodegradable, FSC-certified paper cord. It is the armless companion to the Nestor Armchair in our Mater collection.

Common Questions

How long does a paper cord seat last?
Decades with normal dining use — it is the same hand-woven material used on classic Danish chairs since the 1940s, and it can be re-woven by an upholsterer when it finally wears.

What is the difference from the Nestor Armchair?
Only the armrests. Both share Tom Stepp's Shaker-inspired frame in FSC-certified beech or oak, the same 17.3-inch seat height, and the hand-woven paper cord seat.
