Ocean 2 Person Dining Table

Jørgen and Nanna Ditzel drew the Ocean Collection in 1955; Mater reissues the two-person table with slats pressed from recovered plastic waste.

Mater, the Copenhagen design house, rebuilt the Ditzels’ slatted outdoor series around waste streams instead of virgin plastic, and the remake won Best Net Gain at the 2019 Wallpaper* Design Awards. Black and Sand come from ocean waste plastic with recycled polypropylene, Green from pharma plastic waste such as discarded insulin pens, and Burnt Red and Dusty Blue from post-consumer e-waste. All five sit on a partly recycled steel tube frame in gunmetal powder coat, alongside the rest of our Mater collection. The collection is designed for disassembly, and Mater sells replacement slats in all five colors.

Two, comfortably. The top is 27.6 inches square at 29.1 inches high, which is the smallest table in the Ocean range and the one sized for balconies and small patios.

What is each color actually made from?
Black and Sand slats are ocean waste plastic with recycled polypropylene. Green is recycled pharma plastic waste, including discarded insulin pens. Burnt Red and Dusty Blue are post-consumer e-waste.

Can the table stay outside all year?
Yes. The Ocean Collection is made and tested for outdoor use, and single slats can be replaced in any color, so weather damage never means replacing the whole table.
