Oki-Nami Chair

The Oki-Nami Chair by Nazanin Kamali blends Japanese-inspired craftsmanship with contemporary British design, resulting in a piece that feels both sculptural and quietly functional. Originally created in 2008 for the Oki-Nami Japanese restaurant in Brighton, the brief called for furniture with the precision, proportion, and attention to detail found in Japan’s craft traditions—while still offering the comfort and durability required for a busy dining environment. The result is a chair defined by its signature wrap-around back, which doubles as a natural armrest and provides support even when sitting sideways. Its curving frame, crafted in solid oak or walnut, is paired with a generously sized leather-upholstered seat pad that delivers lasting comfort.
Shortlisted for the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards in 2009, the Oki-Nami Chair has since become a standout example of purposeful, modern design. Manufactured in Lithuania with a clear polyurethane lacquer and TSCA-compliant wood, it’s built for both residential and contract use—sturdy enough for everyday dining, refined enough to elevate any interior. With its warm materiality, thoughtful ergonomics, and timeless silhouette, the Oki-Nami brings a sense of calm, crafted beauty to any space.
