Orb Mortar and Pestle
Gareth Neal shaped this mortar and pestle from solid granite to live on the counter, not in a cupboard.
Building on the rounded language of his Orb grinders for Case Furniture, Neal treats a kitchen staple as a small sculpture — weighty, tactile, and honest about its material. The dense stone crushes spices, herbs, and seeds with little effort and no flex.

Common Questions
Is granite safe for food preparation?
Yes — granite is the traditional mortar material because it is dense, hard, and non-flexing, standing up to years of grinding spices, herbs, seeds, and pastes without deteriorating.
How do I clean it?
Rinse with warm water and scrub with a brush; skip soap where possible, since porous stone can hold soapy residue and odors. Dry thoroughly before storing.
Does it match the Orb Grinder?
Yes. Gareth Neal designed both around the same rounded Orb form, so the mortar and pestle and the salt and pepper grinders read as one family on the counter.
