Overhang Rectangular Side Table

The Overhang Rectangular Side Table is part of Terence Woodgate’s long-running cantilevered side-table series for Case Furniture. Woodgate — Royal Designer for Industry since 2006, with four decades of work for Cappellini, SCP, Punt, and Established & Sons — designed Overhang around a specific frustration: most side tables don’t actually reach you when you sit down, because their footprint blocks the seat or the leg, and their height misses your lap. The rectangular version uses the same cantilevered logic as the round, but with a longer top better suited to laptop work, two coffee mugs, or a tablet plus a book. The tapered solid-wood frame creates an illusion of weightlessness while keeping the piece stable. Built in Thailand from FSC-certified hardwood, with replaceable components and a flat-pack design that significantly reduces shipping volume and freight emissions.

Dimensions: H20.86" × W17.7" × D13.7" (H530 × W450 × D350 mm). Available in solid Oak or solid Walnut, with the matching timber used for both frame and top — not the HPL-topped variant Case also produces. The rectangular footprint reaches further across the seat than the round, which makes it the better pick for actual laptop work or for couples who both want a coffee within reach. Part assembly is required and clearly documented; the hardware is replaceable, in line with Case’s standard durability approach across the catalog. The wood arrives finished with a clear, low-VOC sealer that can be re-oiled annually if the surface starts to dry. TSCA Title VI and California Prop 65 compliant. For deep, low sofas where a conventional coffee table is too far away to be useful, the Overhang Rectangular Side Table puts the surface where you actually need it, and the tapered legs read as architectural rather than utilitarian.
