Ray Pendant

Magnets hold an FSC-certified oak globe inside a steel shell, so the beam can be turned wherever the light is wanted.

Danish studio PEDERJESSEN drew Ray for Mater, the Copenhagen design house founded in 2006, as a lamp you aim rather than one you hang and forget. The outer shell is powder-coated steel in white or black; the inner globe is solid oak certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, and the cord is textile-covered to match. It is the most directional of the pendants in our Mater collection, and Mater supplies parts for owner repair.

Common Questions

How does the adjustable light direction work?
The oak globe is held inside the steel shell by magnets, so you turn it by hand to aim the beam - straight down over a counter, angled at artwork, or sideways for a wall wash.

What bulb does the Ray Pendant use, and is it included?
A GU9 socket, also written G9, rated to a maximum 7.5 watts. LED is recommended and the bulb is not included. The textile-covered cord measures 78 inches.

Is the wood certified?
Yes. Mater's own product sheet specifies solid oak certified by the Forest Stewardship Council for the inner globe; the outer shell is powder-coated steel in white or black.
