A rimmed top, integrated S-hooks, and a place in the Centre Pompidou's permanent collection — all from one 7-pound stool.

Josh Owen designed the SOS in 2007 as a seat, side table, and catchall in a single two-piece form, and Heller reissued it in linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) with 25% post-consumer recycled content. Weatherproof and 100% recyclable, it moves from patio to studio without complaint. The Philadelphia Museum of Art also holds it in its permanent collection.

Common Questions

Can the SOS stay outside year-round?
Yes. The polyethylene body is weatherproof, so it works on patios, decks, and poolside as readily as indoors. Wipe it down with a damp cloth and a mild, bleach-free cleaner.

Is it a stool or a side table?
Both. The rimmed top keeps drinks and objects from sliding off when it serves as a table, the molded body doubles as seating, and built-in S-hooks hold bags or tools.

For minor spots Heller recommends a damp soft cloth and non abrasive bleach free cleaner.
For heavier marks a mild bleach free detergent (such as dishwashing liquid diluted in warm water) and soft brush with will be sufficient. Wipe excess water off with a chamois.
