Vertigo Pendant

A graduation project that ended up in the collections of MoMA, the MAD and the CAP — and above a great many dining tables.

Constance Guisset's 2010 pendant set out to be enormous and weightless at once. The answer was a fiberglass structure with polyurethane ribbons laid on by hand, hung from a textile mesh cable on steel hardware, so the whole canopy quivers with moving air and throws a striped shadow across the ceiling. Made in France by Petite Friture, a certified B Corp.

Common Questions

Does it come with a bulb?
No. Vertigo uses an E27 socket rated to 40W maximum; Petite Friture suggests a G60 globe around 1,500 lumens at 2700K to match the warm, filtered light the ribbons are designed for.

Which diameter should I choose?
Small is 43.3 in across, Medium 55.1 in and Large 74.8 in. Vertigo is meant to read as a room-defining canopy, so size it to the volume rather than to the table below.

Is it hard to install?
Two people are advised. The shade ships folded and is unfolded by hand on site, then hung from the 118 in textile mesh cable and steel canopy. It is rated IP20 for indoor use.
