Arcus Shelf - Small

Nanna Aakjær designed the Arcus Shelf around a detail from her grandfather's 1950s coffee tables: the coved edge Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen cut into their tops, here turned into the shelf's finishing end.

Arcus is a floating wall shelf in FSC-certified solid oak from Aakjaer: a long, shallow arc that tapers to a point, so it reads as much like wall art as storage. A concealed metal bracket holds it flush with no visible fixings. At 23.6 inches, the Small is the shortest of the three sizes, sized for a short run of postcards, a candle and a small plant, or a single picture with room to breathe.

How is it mounted?
Each Arcus Shelf comes with a concealed metal bracket that screws to the wall and slides into the shelf, so the oak appears to float. Use screws and wall anchors suited to your wall, and Aakjaer's mounting video walks through each step.

How much can it hold?
Aakjaer rates the Arcus Shelf for up to 6.6 lb (3 kg) of objects. That covers framed prints, a few paperbacks, a vase or a small plant; it isn't meant for a full row of heavy hardbacks.

Which size do I need?
Arcus comes in three lengths: Small 23.6 in, Medium 35.4 in, Large 43.3 in, all 5.9 inches deep. The Small is 23.6 inches; hang two sizes at staggered heights for the layered look shown in Aakjaer's photos.
