Causeway Vase

East London designer Aaron Probyn, whose homeware has been produced by West Elm and Pottery Barn, modeled the Causeway Vase on the interlocking basalt columns of Ireland’s Giant’s Causeway.

Probyn reduces those stone columns to a single pentagonal prism, blown in glass rather than pressed, so the walls carry a rippled, frost-like texture that scatters light instead of reflecting it. Because each vase is blown, no two are quite alike. Case, the London design house Paul Newman founded in 2005, makes it in three heights and two finishes, Clear and Olive, all on the same 5.9-inch footprint so they group tightly on a table or mantel. The Large stands 12.6 inches.

Common Questions

Will each vase look exactly like the photos?
Not exactly. Each Causeway is blown glass, and Case notes that the process makes every piece vary slightly in appearance. Expect the same pentagonal form and 5.9-inch footprint, with small differences in the rippled texture.

Do the three sizes share the same footprint?
Yes. Small, Medium and Large all measure 5.9 inches across, so they sit flush when grouped and only the height changes. Buy one, or stagger all three on a table or mantelpiece as Case photographs them.

Is the Causeway Vase dishwasher safe?
Case specifies a damp cloth only and warns against spirits, bleach and other chemical cleaners; there is no dishwasher rating. Rinse the inside with warm water after each arrangement and let it air dry.
