Dulwich Bar Table

Matthew Hilton, a Royal Designer for Industry and one of the designers in Case's founding 2005 collection, designed the Dulwich Bar Table to seat four at 41 inches high.

The Dulwich range is Hilton's study in slender proportion: legs draw away from the corners so knees and stools have room, and a stretcher between them doubles as a footrest. Legs, edge and underframe are solid oak, walnut or black-stained oak under clear lacquer, with a matching veneered top; the HPL versions take a high-pressure laminate top in Sable or Black instead. Made in Turkey and tested to BIFMA X5.5, it sits with the Dulwich chair, bench and desk in the Case collection.

How many people does the Dulwich Bar Table seat?
Four comfortably. The top is 55.1 by 31.5 inches at 41.3 inches high, so pair it with stools of about 30 inches seat height, such as the Oki-Nami Stool. Case rates it for six at a squeeze.

Does the Dulwich Bar Table need assembly?
Partial assembly, and Case specifies two people: the two leg frames locate on dowels and bolt to the top with a crossbar between them. The allen key is supplied; you need a flat-head screwdriver.

Which top should I choose, veneer or HPL?
Veneer gives a continuous grain that matches the solid wood frame. HPL (high-pressure laminate) suits daily kitchen or cafe use: it is food safe, fingerprint-proof and resists scratches and heat. Both cost the same.
