Eternity Side Chair

Space Copenhagen shaped this stacking chair from post-consumer e-waste plastic and reclaimed fiber, about 4,330 grams of waste per chair.

The shell is Matek, Mater's patented composite, which recycles fiber waste, coffee shells or wood depending on the colorway, together with recycled plastic from post-consumer e-waste. A frame of 20 percent recycled steel in gunmetal keeps it light enough to stack and sturdy enough for restaurant service. Mater, the Copenhagen design house founded in 2006, makes it in Latvia from Matek pressed in a hydropower-run facility. It is the chair most people start with in our Mater collection.

Is the Eternity Sidechair durable enough for commercial use?
Yes. Mater rates it for private and public use, and the molded Matek shell on a powder-coated steel frame is built for high-traffic dining rooms and cafes where chairs get moved all day.

Do Eternity chairs stack?
Yes. The sidechair is a stacking chair, so spare seating stores compactly between dinners or events. The armchair and the stools in the series do not stack.

What gives each finish its color?
The waste stream itself. Coffee-shell blends read warm brown through near-black, while wood waste reads gray. Variation in fleck and pigment between chairs is natural to a recycled composite.
