The backrest holds two angles — one for sitting upright at the table, one for leaning back with coffee.

Børge Mogensen studied how people actually sit before shaping the M16 Ermelunden bench in 1965; its dual-angle backrest supports both postures. In nature-oiled pine with the series' wide anti-sink feet, it is made by FDB Møbler, the studio Mogensen led from its 1942 founding.
