Freedom Ocean Headrest

Designed by Niels Diffrient — widely regarded as the father of modern ergonomics — the Humanscale Freedom Ocean Headrest is an executive task chair built from ocean-derived reclaimed materials. Each chair incorporates 4.2 lbs of ocean plastic, with 19% post-consumer and 15% pre-consumer recycled content across its construction. The dynamic headrest moves intuitively as you recline, while the weight-sensitive mechanism eliminates manual adjustments entirely — the chair reads your body and responds. Upholstered in Corde 4 textile, a durable four-way stretch fabric vetted free of over 20 harmful chemical classes.

With a 400 lb weight capacity, GREENGUARD Gold certification for indoor air quality, and Living Product Certification (climate, water, and energy positive), the Freedom Ocean represents what responsible executive seating looks like in practice. The chair measures 26.75"W x 26"D x 48.2–53"H with a seat height range of 16–21 inches, accommodating a wide range of body types.
