Ethnicraft

Solid-wood furniture from Antwerp, made to age well

Benoit Loos and Philippe Delaisse founded Ethnicraft in Antwerp more than 30 years ago. It makes solid oak and teak furniture in its own factories, and its Re-Loved programme refurbishes pieces for a second life.

  • Solid wood, oiled or water-based varnished
  • Serbian factory runs on wood-residue energy
  • Re-Loved: refurbished for a second life

Jack Footstool

Jacques Deneef's Jack footstool is the matching piece to Ethnicraft's Jack Lounge Chair: a dark brown mahogany frame with Scandinavian-modern lines, topped with a deep cushion in Ivory bouclé, Carbone leather or Terra nubuck.

Ethnicraft built the Jack collection on generous curves that look right from every side, with a classic, vintage feel meant to be passed down. The frame is Indonesian mahogany, tinted dark brown and varnished; the cushion is high-density foam in your choice of upholstery. Ethnicraft makes the frame and cushion as separate parts that can also be ordered on their own, so a worn cushion can be replaced without replacing the footstool.

Dark brown-tinted Indonesian mahogany frame, varnish finish; high-density foam cushion in Ivory bouclé (OEKO-TEX Standard 100), Carbone full-aniline leather or Terra nubuck full-aniline leather

Common Questions

Does it match the Jack Lounge Chair?
Yes. It shares the Jack Lounge Chair's dark brown mahogany frame and comes in three of its upholsteries, Ivory fabric, Carbone leather and Terra nubuck, so ordering both in one upholstery gives a matched pair.

Can I replace the cushion later?
Yes. Ethnicraft makes the frame and cushion as separate parts that can be ordered on their own, so a worn cushion can be swapped, or the upholstery changed, without replacing the mahogany frame.

Which upholstery is easiest to live with?
Ivory is a bouclé rated to 60,000 Martindale rubs; vacuum it and blot spills. The full-aniline leathers develop a patina with use; wipe with a dry cloth and keep out of direct sun. Ethnicraft's leather kit is not suitable for Terra nubuck.
