Kahler Hammershoi Plates

Kahler Hammershoi Plates
Furrowed rings run to the rim of every plate — Svend Hammershøi's ceramic signature, rescaled for a modern service.
Hans-Christian Bauer drew the Hammershøi series for Kähler in 2015, borrowing the grooved surface from Svend Hammershøi, the painter and trained potter who worked with the Næstved pottery from 1893 until his death in 1948. The plates are glazed porcelain in five diameters, dishwasher and microwave safe. Parent company Rosendahl Design Group is a Certified B Corp.

Common Questions
Are Hammershøi plates dishwasher safe?
Yes — and microwave safe. Kähler lists the Hammershøi porcelain for both, and because the furrows are formed in the clay rather than applied on top, machine washing will not wear them away.
Which diameter is the dinner plate?
The 10.6 in plate is the main-course size. Use 8.7 in and 8.3 in for lunch and salad, 7.5 in for dessert or under a coffee cup, and 10.2 in as an in-between setting.
What are the grooves actually for?
They are Svend Hammershøi's signature. Beyond the reference, the furrows let glaze pool in the valleys and thin over the ridges, which is what gives the white its shifting depth.
