Kokeshi Lamp

Robert Schnyder took the Japanese kokeshi doll and turned it into a rechargeable bedside light.

The base is glazed porcelain in pastel tones, colored varnishes, and details in golden luster; the shade is translucent matte white porcelain over a lacquered metal foot. A tactile metal dimmer, etched with the Lladró flower, regulates the light. Made by hand at the Valencia workshops the house has run since 1953.

How long does it run and how long does it charge?
Seven hours at full power, from a charge of about six hours. Note the charge time is longer than the Firefly lamps — and the USB charger is not included.

What is the dimmer like?
A tactile metal switch etched with the Lladró bellflower logo. It regulates intensity by touch rather than by a click, which is part of why the lamp works at a bedside.

What colors does it come in?
Blue, with cream and green accents, and Cream, with shades in the red family. Both carry the golden luster detailing and the matte white shade.

The luminaires require only a light dusting with a soft or microfiber cloth. Dust and polish the bulbs with
that soft cloth before dusting the luminaire itself. Clean the porcelain parts in warm, soapy water. For non-
porcelain components use only dry soft cloth. Do not use chemicals.
