Original 1227 Brass Desk Lamp
George Carwardine's Original 1227 of 1935 is the archetypal Anglepoise, and the Brass edition, launched in 2014, dresses it in heritage gloss colors with solid brass fittings.
Carwardine was an automotive engineer, and his constant-tension springs still let this arm move freely and hold any position you set. The Brass edition adds a brass shade cap, bridle, spacers and fittings to a high-gloss painted aluminum shade, with a twisted fabric cable and inline switch, on a cast iron base. It comes from Anglepoise, a certified B Corp.

Common Questions
Does it come with a bulb, and what type?
Yes. It takes an E26 bulb and ships with one in the box. Anglepoise sets the maximum at 10W LED and notes that bulb weight affects the balance, so replace it with a standard-weight LED.
Can I dim it?
Not out of the box. The supplied bulb is non-dimmable, and Anglepoise notes that dimming needs additional electrical hardware. As standard it switches at the inline switch on the cable.
How far does it reach?
The arm reaches 28.3 inches horizontally and 26.7 inches vertically from a 5.9 inch square base. The 79 inch fabric cable ends in a two-blade US plug, and the lamp is cUL certified.
