Original 1227 Desk Lamp - Opal Blue Edition
George Carwardine's Original 1227 has held its pose on constant-tension springs since 1935, and this Opal Blue edition looks back to the earliest Anglepoise lamps, when bold primary colors featured across shades and bases.
A gloss blue shade and base carry the color, while satin black arms, black nickel-plated springs and fittings, and a black fabric cable give the engineering a crisp outline. The mechanism is Carwardine's: springs that let the arm move freely and stay where you leave it, above a cast iron base. It belongs to our Anglepoise collection, from a certified B Corp.

Common Questions
Does it come with a bulb?
Yes. A bulb comes in the box, so the lamp is ready once unpacked. It switches on and off at an inline switch on the 98 inch black fabric cable and plugs into a standard outlet.
Will the arm stay where I put it?
Yes. George Carwardine's constant-tension springs balance the arm and shade, so the lamp moves freely and then holds its position, the principle behind the Original 1227 since 1935.
How is this different from the standard Original 1227?
It shares Carwardine's design and spring mechanism. What changes is the finish: gloss blue shade and base, satin black arms, black nickel-plated springs and fittings, and a twisted black fabric cable.
