Paul Newman founded Case in 2005. Matthew Hilton and Terence Woodgate, both Royal Designers for Industry, have designed for it since the first collection, and it reissues Robin Day's 1964 Forum sofa with the Robin and Lucienne Day Foundation.

Solas Lounge Chair
Low, wide, and built from yacht-deck materials, Matthew Hilton's outdoor lounge chair settles an afternoon firmly into place.
Solas takes its cues from nautical design, and the lounge chair is its most relaxed expression: curved solid teak slats over a stainless steel frame, sitting lower and wider than the dining pieces. It belongs to the Case Furniture outdoor series, equally at ease on a deck or inside by a window.

How low is the seat?
The seat sits 13.6 inches from the ground — a deliberate lounge posture, noticeably lower than a dining chair's 17–18 inches. It encourages a reclined, unhurried sit rather than an upright one.
Is it weatherproof?
Yes. Teak is naturally rich in oils and resins that resist rot, and stainless steel does not rust in garden conditions. Clean once a season with lukewarm water and a soft brush.
Does it need cushions?
No. The teak slats are curved for comfort and the chair is designed to be used bare, which means nothing to bring in when it rains. A throw or loose cushion can be added indoors.
