The Dining Chair

Space Copenhagen carried the High Stool's silhouette into a dining chair by adding a steam-bent veneer backrest.

The frame is FSC-certified solid oak or beech, the back is shaped veneer rather than a cut curve, and the seat is upholstered in Sorensen Leather that deepens in color with use. The rounded back is generous enough that Mater leaves the armrests off altogether, which is what keeps the chair tucking cleanly under a table. It shares the fluid, archetypal profile that runs through all of Space Copenhagen's work for our Mater collection.

Dust with a soft dry cloth; wipe the wood with a damp cloth and mild soap and dry at once; condition the leather occasionally and keep the chair out of prolonged direct sun

Common Questions

Will it work at a standard dining table?
Yes. The 18.5-inch seat height fits standard 29-to-30-inch dining tables, and the armless profile tucks fully under most aprons, so the chairs disappear when they are not in use.

Does the leather seat need special care?
No special regimen. Wipe with a soft dry cloth and condition occasionally. The Sorensen hides are chosen to develop a patina, so the seat gains character rather than wearing out.

Is the backrest solid wood?
It is steam-bent veneer, shaped rather than cut, which is how Space Copenhagen gets the continuous curve. The frame under it is FSC-certified solid oak or beech.
