Every brand we carry
Each brand is scored on the same six categories: material, transportation, manufacturing, labor, energy and durability. Grades run from 3.0 to 5.0, and a brand is carried only if it clears our floor. How we score brands

Best Sustainable Furniture Brands
How Comosum vets sustainable furniture brands
Not all "sustainable" furniture brands are equal. Many rely on vague claims — "responsibly made," "eco-conscious," "green" — without third-party verification or material transparency. We score every brand we carry on a six-category Sustainability Meter, shown on each of its product pages: Material (certified, recycled or rapidly renewable content), Transportation (where it is made and how it travels to the US), Manufacturing (ISO 14001, B Corp or published production figures), Labor (B Corp, SA8000, audits and named factories), Energy (production energy or, for lamps, the energy used in your home) and Durability (warranties, spare parts, test standards and long-running designs). Each category scores 1 to 5 from published evidence. A brand is listed only when no category scores 1, its grade is at least 3.0 (18 of 30), and no more than two categories score below 3. As a Be Original Americas member, we also carry only original designs — never replicas.

Questions about sustainable furniture brands
What are the best eco-friendly furniture brands?
The brands that score highest on Comosum's Sustainability Meter are Humanscale (5.0; B Corp, made in its own plants in the US and Mexico), Anglepoise, Isimar and Varier (4.2), and Fermob and Tikamoon (4.0). For a short list across categories: Humanscale for office seating, Anglepoise and Tala for lighting, Fermob for outdoor furniture, Mater for chairs in FSC wood and waste-based Matek, Heller for American-made design, Ethnicraft for solid oak and teak, and Greenington for solid bamboo.
What certifications should I look for in sustainable furniture brands?
Look for named third-party certifications: FSC for responsibly harvested wood, B Corp for verified business-wide social and environmental practices, ISO 14001 for a factory's environmental management, GREENGUARD Gold for low chemical emissions, Nordic Swan Ecolabel for full-lifecycle standards, Cradle to Cradle for circularity, and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and GOTS for textiles. Verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and life-cycle assessments are strong evidence too. Be wary of vague claims like "eco-conscious" with no certificate or figure behind them.
Which sustainable furniture brands are made in North America?
Most Heller furniture is made in the USA, Humanscale makes its furniture in its own plants in the US and Mexico, nella home 3D-prints its lamps in Charleston, South Carolina, and Conifer Homewares prints its planters and vases in Vancouver. The European brands we carry are imported, and every order ships from a US warehouse.
Are sustainable furniture brands more expensive?
Usually more up front, but often less per year of use. Solid wood, steel and aluminum furniture with long warranties and spare parts can be repaired rather than replaced: FDB Møbler and Varier give 10-year warranties, Humanscale 15 years, and Anglepoise guarantees its lamps for life.
Which low-carbon furniture brands does Comosum carry?
Isimar uses 100% recycled steel and aluminum and has 730 kW of solar at its factory. Humanscale publishes verified life-cycle assessments, runs on 47% renewable power and operates TRUE Zero Waste plants. Fermob draws 15–42% of its factory power from rooftop solar and publishes its CO2 and water data. Tikamoon publishes product carbon footprints, and most Varier models have verified Environmental Product Declarations.
What is the most sustainable furniture brand?
On Comosum's Sustainability Meter, Humanscale is the only brand to score 5.0, with top marks in all six categories. The answer still depends on what you are buying: for outdoor metal, Isimar and Fermob; for solid wood, Tikamoon, FDB Møbler and Ethnicraft; for bamboo, Greenington; for lighting, Anglepoise and Tala.
What is Comosum's Sustainability Meter?
The Comosum Sustainability Meter is the rubric Comosum uses to score every brand it carries: Material, Transportation, Manufacturing, Labor, Energy and Durability, each scored 1 to 5 from published evidence, for a total out of 30. A brand is carried only when no category scores 1, its grade is at least 3.0 (18 of 30), and no more than two categories score below 3. The full methodology is published at comosum.co/pages/sustainability-meter-methodology, and every product page shows its brand's scores.
