Earth Stool with Backrest
Danish architect Eva Harlou gives her press-molded coffee-waste seat a curved backrest here, and the stool becomes somewhere to stay.
The seat and back are Matek, the compound Mater developed with the Danish Technological Institute from coffee shells supplied by the roaster BKI and recycled post-consumer plastic. Press molding turns that waste into one smooth, pebble-textured piece, carried on a gun-metal powder-coated steel frame. It is the most sculptural silhouette in our Mater collection, and the back is what makes it work through a whole evening rather than a quick coffee.

How is it different from the standard Earth Stool?
The backrest. Both share Eva Harlou's press-molded Matek seat of coffee-shell waste and recycled post-consumer plastic on a gun-metal steel frame; this version adds a curved back for longer sittings.
Which height should I order?
Choose the 27.2-inch seat for kitchen counters around 36 inches and the 29.1-inch seat for bar counters of 40 inches or more, keeping about 10 inches of clearance under the counter.
