Max Salad Plates 7.5" (Set of 6)
Massimo and Lella Vignelli designed these stacking salad plates in 1964; the dinnerware won the Compasso d'Oro that year.
MoMA keeps the dinnerware in its permanent design collection. When the original Milan maker closed, Alan Heller brought it back, and it became the first product of Heller in 1971. Raised rims lock each piece into a straight, compact stack, so a full set takes a fraction of a cupboard shelf. Melamine is light, hard to break and good for outdoor meals; it isn't recyclable, so its case is longevity: a set kept for decades. It's what we use at home.

Common Questions
Can it go in the microwave?
No. Heller says not to use it in the microwave or oven, under heat lamps or in warming drawers, and to keep hot food below 180°F. It is top-rack dishwasher safe.
Will it break if dropped?
Melamine is much tougher than ceramic and rarely breaks, though a hard drop can chip it and sharp knives can scratch the surface over time.
What is the Rainbow option?
Rainbow is a mixed set in several colors from the range, so the stack is multicolored; every other option is the full set in one color.
