Overhang Round Side Table

Designed by Terence Woodgate — a British designer with four decades of work for Cappellini, SCP, Punt, and Established & Sons, and a Royal Designer for Industry since 2006 — the Overhang Round Side Table addresses a specific problem: most side tables don’t actually fit alongside a sofa, because their footprint blocks the seat or the leg, and their height misses your lap. Woodgate’s answer is a cantilevered form. The circular top is held off-axis by a tapered solid-wood frame, allowing it to float over the seat cushion at exactly the right working height for a laptop, book, or drink. The tapered cross-section gives the structure an illusion of weightlessness without compromising stability. This solid-wood version is built in Thailand from FSC-certified hardwood, with replaceable components and a flat-pack design that significantly reduces shipping volume and freight emissions.
Available in solid Oak or solid Walnut, with the matching timber used for both frame and top — not the HPL-topped variant Case also produces. Part assembly is required and clearly documented; the joinery uses replaceable hardware so a damaged component can be swapped rather than the whole piece replaced, which is Case’s standard durability approach across the catalog. The wood arrives finished with a clear, low-VOC sealer that protects against everyday wear without altering the timber’s natural tone, and the finish can be re-oiled annually if the surface starts to dry out. TSCA Title VI and California Prop 65 compliant. For lounge setups where a conventional side table doesn’t fit — deep cushions, low arms, awkward floor space — Overhang earns its place by being the side table that actually reaches you, and the cantilevered base lets it sit flush with the sofa without touching the upholstery.
