What makes a bed frame eco-friendly?

An eco-friendly bed frame is built from materials that can be traced back to a responsibly managed forest or rapidly renewable plant (like Moso bamboo), finished with water-based or oil finishes that meet CARB Phase 2 emission limits, and built to be repaired rather than replaced. Avoid frames that use particleboard or MDF cores with urea-formaldehyde adhesive — those are the single largest source of off-gassing in a bedroom.

What's the difference between a sustainable bed and a regular bed?
A sustainable bed uses certified-source wood (FSC or PEFC), low-VOC finishes, no formaldehyde-based adhesives, and is designed for repair. A standard bed is often particleboard with veneer, glued together with urea-formaldehyde and built to a 5-7 year lifespan.

Are bamboo bed frames better than wood?
For air quality, often yes — Moso bamboo is a grass that regenerates in 3-5 years, and Greenington's frames are built without urea-formaldehyde adhesives. For weight and warmth, solid oak from Ethnicraft or beech from FDB Møbler may be a better choice.
