J46 Chair - Smoked Grey
Driftwood grey with the grain still talking — Volther's 1956 spoke-back in smoked grey oiled oak.
A single J46 from FDB Møbler in the range's moodiest wood finish: oak treated with smoked grey oil that darkens the surface while leaving every grain line legible. The 1956 frame beneath remains Denmark's best-selling chair design.

Common Questions
Grey paint or grey oil — what's the difference?
Oil shows the wood: smoked grey oiled oak keeps visible grain and subtle brown undertones, where painted grey gives a flat, uniform surface.
Where does this finish work best?
Beside dark tables, stone, and modern monochrome rooms — or as the grounding chair among lighter J46 finishes.
