J46 Chair - Natural Beech

Pale beech, clear lacquer, nothing added — the J46 exactly as 1956 intended it.

Poul Volther's spoke-back for FDB Møbler in its original expression: nature-lacquered beech with a water-based finish, sold here as a single chair. Its elegant lines and wide seat made it one of the best-selling chairs in Danish history.

Common Questions

Kitchen chair or dining chair?
Both — Volther designed the J46 to move between the kitchen table and the dining room, which is exactly how Danish households have used it since 1956.

How does natural beech age?
It warms slightly toward honey tones over years of light exposure — a gradual, even mellowing the clear water-based lacquer is designed to allow.

Care Guide +

FDB Møbler furniture is crafted from FSC-certified wood, powder-coated steel, and OEKO-TEX textiles. Keep away from direct heat and sunlight. Dust with a soft cloth; clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. For lacquered surfaces, avoid harsh chemicals. For oiled wood, re-oil periodically. For upholstery, vacuum regularly and address spills promptly. Lift furniture rather than dragging across floors.
