Volther left room for Jørna's long knitting needles; today the J166 from FDB Møbler hosts laptops and library books just as well. Here, Main Line Flax Beige (61) upholstery softens a jet-black painted (RAL 9005) oak frame — quiet fabric, graphic base.

Does beige upholstery work with a black frame?
Yes — the contrast is the point. The pale Beige (61) seat appears to float within the black frame, giving the compact chair a lighter presence than an all-dark version.
Why did Volther design the Jørna?
For his wife, Jørna, who liked to knit with long needles — he shaped the chair so there was room for them, which is why it still accommodates whatever you settle in with.
