J166 Jørna Chair - Black

Poul Volther designed this armchair for his wife Jørna, leaving room for her long knitting needles.

In this FDB Møbler version, black Denver semi-aniline leather sits in a nature-lacquered oak frame — pale grain against dark hide, the classic Danish pairing. Volther, head of the FDB design studio from 1950, sized the J166 for real life: a chair you occupy with something in hand.

Common Questions

How does black leather pair with natural oak?
It's the most traditional Danish combination in the series — the light nature-lacquered frame keeps the chair airy while the black Denver leather grounds it and gains patina over years.

Is the Jørna a full-size armchair?
Yes in comfort, no in bulk: 30.1 inches wide, 29.7 deep, 34.1 high, and just 19.4 pounds — armchair posture in a footprint that fits bedrooms and reading corners.

Care Guide +

FDB Møbler furniture is crafted from FSC-certified wood, powder-coated steel, and OEKO-TEX textiles. Keep away from direct heat and sunlight. Dust with a soft cloth; clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. For lacquered surfaces, avoid harsh chemicals. For oiled wood, re-oil periodically. For upholstery, vacuum regularly and address spills promptly. Lift furniture rather than dragging across floors.
