Smoking darkens the oak while keeping the grain visible and tactile under the oiled finish — a deep brown-black with life in it, where paint gives a uniform surface.

Is the Jørna big enough to lounge in?
Yes for reading and handwork — Volther designed it around his wife's knitting sessions — though at 30.1 inches wide it stays a compact armchair, not a lounge chair.
